The Patient Association responds to major NHS App expansion to cut waiting times 28 April 2025 Responding to the major expansion of the NHS App, resulting in cuts to waiting times and 1.5 million fewer hospital appointments being missed, Chief Executive of the Patients Association, Rachel Power, said; "It's very encouraging to see how digital tools like the NHS App are giving patients greater power over their healthcare, from managing appointments to accessing important health information. The NHS figures showing 1.5 million prevented missed appointments and 1.7 million staff hours saved demonstrate just how transformative this innovation can be. "While this digital progress is vital and the 20% increase in hospital participation is welcome, we must also ensure no one is left behind. Digital access remains a barrier for many, so we welcome the initiative providing support for online health services at 1,400 libraries across England. This kind of practical support needs to remain a key priority as services continue to modernise. "Our work with patients on the NHS App shows that those using the app report higher satisfaction with their care journey, but 23% of patients still face challenges accessing digital services. The NHS App represents an important step forward, but true success requires ensuring these benefits reach all patients regardless of their digital literacy or access."
