Responding to the RCN's research on violence against nursing staff, Julie Thallon, Chair of the Patients Association said;

“Healthcare staff should never face violence at work, yet this shocking report from the RCN shows the alarming scale of the problem nurses are dealing with every day. It is unacceptable that nurses should experience aggression and abuse from the people they are there to help.

“Long waits for treatment, being cared for in inappropriate spaces such as corridors, and chronic staff shortages all create conditions that are unsafe for both patients and staff. The government must address these systemic issues so nurses can carry out their vital work without fear and patients can receive safe, timely care in the right setting.”
